Participants Expressed Interest to Explore Maths Further

Project Aims:
-
Reintroduce maths in an accessible way for adults without a GCSE in maths.
-
Use creative techniques to demonstrate real-world applications of maths, reducing anxiety and building confidence.
-
Encourage further learning by making maths feel less overwhelming and more approachable.
The Solution:
We delivered three installments of Photo Editing Courses to show how maths naturally appears in creative processes. Participants explored scaling, rescaling, ratios, symmetry, and composition, discovering maths in a hands-on and engaging way.
These workshops were designed for adults who are traditionally hard to engage in learning. By embedding maths into a creative setting, we helped participants overcome past challenges and feel more comfortable exploring mathematical concepts.

The Outcome:
The project was a success! We recruited a large number of hard to engage people from our community who were initially hesitant about giving maths a try, with some even revisiting the subject after 50 years. The course boasted a high completion rate, with almost every attendee finishing the course in its entirety, showing that we were able to approach maths in a fun and welcoming way.
Participants also learned about photo editing, with all attendees creating stunning photo edits using a variety of different techniques. See some examples below:
To top it off, everyone reported a boost in their confidence with maths, and several even sought out higher-level courses afterwards.

Feedback:
What barriers previously prevented you from engaging in learning?
“It’s scary. I can’t just do this on my own. Maybe I could’ve gone online and tried to play around and figure it out, but it’s about having the confidence to do that, and having the skill and belief in yourself. I feel like you’ve given me that confidence and skill to go online, adjust, play, and learn a bit more.” – Hassan, Multiply Attendee
